Was hungry at the airport of Winnipeg so we went to Blue Marble restaurant which is a 5 minute walk distance. Ordered their fried calamari with 2 drinks. The fried calamari portion was small and the salad was okay. The vinaigrette was not that tasty was a bit too sour for me. Service-wise it was perfect. Great atmosphere. There were no crowd.
Very yummy chicken quesadilla which came fast. Very fresh accompanying salad. Cheerful service. It was very quiet when we walked in .
Consistently great food and service! Every time we have gone here for dinner (I think this was our fourth time), the food has been prepared beautifully, the flavours paired nicely, the service polite and attentive, and the portions and prices impressive. I can honestly say that some of my favorite dishes I have ever had in Winnipeg have been at The Blue Marble. The atmosphere is very nice and calm, and I enjoyed the choice of music playing over the speaker while we dined, so that's a bonus. I will be thinking of that dessert for a long time: Banana bread french toast with apple cinnamon ice cream...mmmm! We will definitely be back.
My first visit at this restaurant and even though the food was pretty good I doubt I will be back. The airport location is a bit out of the way but the main deterrent for me was the complete lack of ambiance. The restaurant is right next to a fairly busy walkway and has windows all around. I felt pretty uncomfortable with people walking by and literally staring into my plate. Maybe tinting the windows might solve this problem? The restaurant had more of a cafeteria vibe rather than a higher scale restaurant. The food...nice presentation, pretty good but nothing that made me say wow. The serving staff were very nice even when they were dealing with a extremely drunk and belligerent customer who was disturbing everyone.
Well this was an unexpected surprise! For those who want good food with exceptional flavor pairings and a vast & well-stocked wine room -- this is the place for you. Will be coming back many more times, I would recommend you do the same. Pricey but worth every cent. Thanks Brett for taking the time to talk wine with me, and Chris for the fast service.
